You put into words, from Memory and Experience, what I’ve been feeling for a long time. Our feminism is patriarchal, our idea of social care is reactive and performative, not truly protective or nurturing. Thank you for sharing more on this subject than I’d have even known to ask about.

I loved this essay and I have shared it with many friends. So many clear insights about why the matriarchal societies worked because they were based on trust and benevolence. I have been trying to learn more about gynarchy, but it is difficult because the forums and platforms that host these discussions do not invite questioning or even opportunities to ask for clarifications about the ideology. As a very curious person who prefers to understand things I’m unfamiliar with and isn’t afraid of discussing ideas that may be painful and/or cathartic, this makes me sad. I have never been a fan of the patriarchy. It would even be fair to say that I hate it. But I would love to see the topic of gynarchy discussed in a format where questions can be asked. Social movements that don’t allow people to learn about the belief systems tend to thwart their potential if it’s a system that is closed off to certain groups.

Lovett I think you would be an amazing moderator and contributor to a discussion forum with supporters of gynarchy and supporters of matriarchy or matricentric models of society. I know that’s not you main area if focus. For me this is an important topic to explore and I think you might be the best person to lead the discussion.

P.S. I have been reading your work and watching some of your videos for 6 months. I’m very curious to know how you got your interesting accent considering you’re from Gambia and you live in Sweden. I’m so glad I found your Substack!
